What is the best Calculus practice book? I tried looking around but couldn't find a decent consensus on one book or even a few. It would be great if someone could point me towards a book that has both challenging and fun problems and furthermore, allows the student to build a strong foundation while doing those problems. Thanks a bunch! I feel strongly that 'Calculus an intorduction to applied mathematics' by Greenspan and Benney (later editions add Turner as an author) is one of the best books for self-study. I learned calculus at MIT using Thomas' 4th edition, as Greenspan & Benney was used for a slightly different calculus sequence there.
Janusz, Calculus. The worst calculus book ever written. This was the s text in –95; it tries to give a Spivak-style rigorous presentation in colorful mainstream-calculus-book format and reading level. Horrible. Take a look at it to see how badly written a mathematics book can be. For that, one must understand the concepts. To perform calculation, we can use calculators or computer soft-wares, like Mathematica, Maple or Matlab. Accompanying the pdf file of this book is a set of Mathematica notebook files (with , one for each chapter) which give the answers to most of the questions in the Size: 1MB.

Part One briefly develops vector calculus from the beginning; Part Two consists of answered problems. edition. Calculus is not a single-book subject, and one should ask whether you want to be good at using calculus — which suggests a more practical applied-maths approach — or more theoretical.
You might try consulting your university’s course sequence textbooks. Solving partial fraction decompositions with Maple A borrowed trick from Matlab (using the fundamental theorem of calculus): To integrate it, it will probably have to do a partial fraction expansion, so we let it do the expansion when it integrates, then differentiate to get our rational expression converted/decomposed into partial fractions.
Calculus Workbook For Dummies takes you step-by-step through each concept, operation, and solution, explaining the "how" and "why" in plain English, rather than math-speak.
Through relevant instruction and practical examples, you'll soon learn that real-life calculus isn't nearly the monster it's made out to be/5(24). Vector calculus is the fundamental language of mathematical physics.
It pro vides a way to describe physical quantities in three-dimensional space and the way in which these quantities vary. Many topics in the physical sciences can be analysed mathematically using the techniques of vector calculus.
